Analogue Planet: Clients and Projects... |
Dylan Dymond
| |
Dylan Dymond, the accomplished visual artist and owner of CopperFox Art has landed on Analogue Planet! As a guitarist Dylan certainly brings an interesting range of influences to 'the Planet', connecting everything from the epic 'spacey' echo textures of U2's Dave Evans (The Edge) to the 'swampy' slide guitar accents of American Country and Blues. In addition to the guitar, Dylan has strong skills in vocals, songwriting and musical production, and continues to be an asset to Analogue Planet.

Luke Mertz
Luke is an artist of exceptionally good taste, and has been a longtime client of Analogue Planet. Luke is a talented singer and songwriter with great instincts and a keen awareness of how to use the tools of the recording studio studio to craft a song. As a musician, Luke has an enormous knowledge of artists and styles, and yet his music remains refreshingly original. As a lyricist, Luke is probably one of the most talented people I have worked with; his music connects with the listener, being instantly 'catchy' and accessible, and yet disarmingly personal. I find his work to be very skillful, and I have enjoyed mixing and remixing his tracks as I always learn something about songwriting from the way he arranges a song.
Although Luke started writing with VST synths in a DAW environment,
he has completely converted to vintage synths and drum machines, eschewing sequencers and MIDI (!), preferring to play all synth parts by hand. It takes someone
with real talent to pull it off, and lay down tracks with great feel and timing. Luke understands the vintage synths at Analogue Planet, and is a real 'power user' of nearly every piece of hardware in the studio, programming original sounds on the Oberheims & Rolands, and writing original grooves on the LinnDrum. Luke can be demanding at the front of a project, but once he has what he needs he is completely self-sufficient. He is the only client I have ever worked with that can be left completely alone! Luke's skill with technology to realize his artistic concept is so strong, he needs no producer.
Luke has a busy schedule performing live and producing upcoming artists at Hanger 1018, a professional recording studio in Los Angeles. One day I hope to 'lure' him back to the Planet, with my purchase of some incredibly rare and vintage synthesizer! Until then, I am working on remixing some of his recent tracks for use in an independent film. I will have updates on that soon!

Matthew Frost
Matthew Frost recorded at the Planet briefly, back in 2006. He has great modern 'pop' instincts and is a talented singer and songwriter, with outstanding skills on the piano, and a wide vocal range giving him an incredibly versatile and expressive voice.
I wish I was able to work him longer, but Matthew is now enjoying great success recording and performing in NYC. His new work is beautifully produced and showcases his strong vocal performance, in a modern rock context. Check him out here. I hear big things for this talented artist!

Corey Curran
Corey has a beautiful voice and a great attitude in the studio, making her a joy to work with. Corey's style is 'a little bit country; a little bit rock & roll'. Corey has recorded several tracks at Analogue Planet, originals as well as lovely covers of some classics by Fleetwood Mac and Cyndi Lauper. I hope to have the opportunity to work with Corey soon.

Jason Roy
Jason has too many talents for one person! He is a gifted singer and songwriter, and plays the cello, guitar, mandolin, piano and djembe! If that's not enough, Jason is also a talented photographer and graphic artist, with a 2007 gallery showing that earned high praise from the local press.
I have worked with Jason musically for nearly ten years now. I jealously want to get him back in the Planet, but he remains too busy, as a certified Yoga instructor and a talented stylist. Jason and his partner run Second Look Studio, an organization dedicated to providing personal development services. I am definitely a client! Check out his site and see his talent.

Charlie Hunsberger
Charlie has an inveterate collection and knowledge of unusual acoustic instruments. Recording these was a real challenge, and a real education, and I am grateful for the experience. I mapped samples of one of his woodwind instruments and it remains a one of the most unique sounds in my 'catelog'! I am currently working on editing samples of some of his Bodhrans - traditional Irish frame drums.
Analogue Planet was largely focused on electronic music until Charlie arrived. Charlie's love and knowledge of traditional American and Western-European music and instruments has been influential.
